Women's Empowerment Programme Latin America

The Women’s Empowerment Programme Latin America (WEP) fosters capacity and action among young women leaders from Latin American countries to leverage the power of education to promote justice and the rule of law, while strengthening their leadership skills to act for the SDGs. It targets 20 young women, ages 22 to 32 from Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras and Peru and equips them with Global Citizen Fellowships, covering their participation in the WEP.
 
The WEP Latin America will happen online and will equip the fellows with in-depth knowledge about sustainable development, peace, and justice, whilst training their changemaker skills to implement an SDG Micro-Project and become a leader for the SDGs.

It includes an intensive leadership training, multiple networking opportunities with high-level changemakers, peer-to-peer exchange through extracurricular activities and exclusive participation at special events.

Target group • Women
• Age group 22- 32
• National and resident of Bolivia, Brazil, El Salvador, Honduras or Peru
• Prerequisite academic degree: Bachelor’s degree or higher in any discipline
• Proven dedication to the Sustainable Development Goals, women’s empowerment, or peace & justice
• Demonstrated excellent English skills (at least upper-intermediate)
• Applicants from indigenous backgrounds are encouraged to apply
Programme Components July – August 2021: Participation in an 8 week-long leadership training led by international experts, accompanied by an extracurricular program and networking opportunities strengthening the fellows’ potential to be changemakers for Justice and the SDGs.
August 2021 –March 2022: SDG Micro-Project Incubator & SDG Micro-Project Implementation Phase
March 2022: Award Ceremony and Certificate of Achievement after the successful completion of the SDG Micro-Project signed by Ban Ki-Moon and Heinz Fischer.
As of April 2022: Alumni Network membership for fellows, who successfully complete the programme.

This is an online engagement that will be held in English. To be qualified participants must have access to a stable internet connection, be flexible to accommodate online training sessions in their daily schedule, and have at least upper-intermediate English skills.

Training sessions will be held twice per week and will each take a maximum of 90 minutes per day and held during morning hours.

Upon request, a letter may be provided to attest the fellows’ participation in a professional training programme to their employers.
