Study Trips to Romania

    In 2015, the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and the Austrian embassy in Bucharest (Amb. Gerhard Reiweger, Elisabeth Marinkovic and Elke Erk) organized a new optional study trip of DA students to Romania. From 6 to 11 April 2015, eight students participated in the excursion. They were accompanied by DA alumna Alina Bojinca.

    Besides sightseeing in Bucharest, Sighișoara and Sibiu as well as visits of Peleș Castle in Sinaia, the fortified church in Biertan, the open-air museum ASTRA in Sibiu and Cozia Monastery, the group had the opportunity to discuss current issues with government officials, representatives of NGOs and academics. The following meetings were organized:
    • Briefing, reception and meeting with DA alumni at the Austrian embassy in Bucharest
    • Briefing at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania on priorities of the Romanian foreign policy
    • Briefing at “Petrom City” on energy issues in general and OMV, Austria’s biggest investor in Romania, in particular
    • Briefing at the New Europe College’s Institute for Advanced Study on the Black Sea Link Programme
    • Social project “Elijah” for Roma in Transylvania and project “Moara Veche / Alte Mühle”
    • Reception with Dr.h.c. Barbara Schöfnagel, former attaché for social affairs, and short visit of the “Landler-Museum”
    • Briefing by Sibiu Mayor Astrid Fodor
    • Briefing at Demokratisches Forum der Deutschen in Rumänien
