On the occasion of the graduation of the MSc postgraduate Programme „Environmental Technology and International Affairs“ the „ARA Best Study Award“ was granted for the seventh time – the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna and TU Wien congratulate the winners and alumni
On 30 June 2016, the graduation of the postgraduate programme „Environmental Technology and International Affairs“ (ETIA), a cooperation programme between the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna (DA) and TU Wien took place at the Festsaal of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna.
26 students from 17 countries resp. 3 continents participated in the MSc programme this year.
„It seems surprising at first glance that the DA offers a technical program, but matters relating to the environment and climate change do not stop at borders. This puts increasing demands on decision-makers, who require a broad knowledge and understanding of the political, legal, economic and technical issues involved. The DA and TU Wien respond to this challenge with the ETIA program”, Ambassador Hans Winkler, Director of the Diplomatic Academy of Vienna, pointed out. “In our complex world interdisciplinarity is imperative for tackling global environmental phenomena”.
Prof. Bob Martens, Dean of Studies for Continuing Education at TU Wien, highlighted the importance of continuing education. As unique characteristics he emphasised the small number of students per cohort enabling a very good network, and the „female dominance“ in the program which is a very positive characteristic among the programs of TU Wien.
In the course of the graduation ceremony the „ARA Best Study Award“ in the amount of 20,000 euros in total was granted for the seventh time to the students with the best academic performance. ARA Altstoff Recycling Austria AG is Austria’s leading compliance scheme under the EU Packaging Directive. Prof. Christoph Scharff, CEO of ARA, explained that for the first time, the prize is distributed among three students, something the students proposed themselves, showing that „they are not only Masters of Science, but also masters of social skills and solidarity“. The ARA Best Study Award was granted to Ksenia Poplavskaya (1st prize; Russia), Indira de Graaf (2nd prize; UK) and Victoria Haykin (3rd prize; Canada/UK).
The Diplomatic Academy Vienna and the Continuing Education Center of TU Wien congratulate the award winners and the alumni.
For the next class, starting in September 2016, candidates from Austria, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Italy, Kazakhstan, the Netherlands, the Russian Federation, UK, and the USA have been admitted.
