On 10 October 2019, representatives of the Diplomatische Akademie Wien – Vienna School of International Studies (DA) and TU Wien had the pleasure of welcoming sixteen new students enrolled in the 13th ETIA programme (2019-21). The new group is made up of eight students from Austria and eight international colleagues from Bulgaria, China, France, Italy, Luxembourg, the United States and Ukraine.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Emil Brix, director of the DA, emphasised the importance of the topics covered during the ETIA programme. “You will be the stars of the future,” he promised our students, as they “made the right choice” in applying for the MSc ETIA, which will enable them to tackle current and future environmental challenges.
Professor Bob Martens, Dean of Academic Affairs for Continuing Education at TU Wien, underlined the “female dominance” within the ETIA 13 group (63 percent female, 37 percent male students). The TU’s academic director of the ETIA programme, Professor Hans Puxbaum, gave a short overview of the academic modules of the 2019-20 academic year and highlighted the broad range of upcoming excursions and guest lectures.
Finally, Professor Christoph Scharff, CEO of Altstoff Recycling Austria (ARA), drew attention to the successful long-lasting cooperation with TU Wien and congratulated all students on their decision to enrol in this challenging programme. Introducing the annual ARA Best Study Award, Professor Scharff encouraged students to “buckle up in order to receive this incentive.”
“If I had the chance to compose my Master’s programme myself, I would have chosen this exact combination,” said ETIA student Constanze Egkher during the buffet reception closing this year’s ETIA Welcome, which gave first- and second-year students the chance to get to know each other and share insights and (first) experiences with the programme.
