Diplomatic Academy Students Initiative (DASI)

Team 2020-21

DASI is here to represent students’ interests and concerns to the DA administration, including the Director, the Head of the Academic  Administration, and the House Administration. We are here to help students as much as possible with any issues they have. We help manage the DA’s student committees and societies, work with the administration to improve conditions for students, and represent the student body in meetings.

We organise weekly DASI meetings (open to all students) and a ‘General Student Assembly’ every term. We aim to promote student involvement in DASI and DA life at every level, and we value your participation as members of the student body! The DASI Committee is made up of a President, Vice-President, Treasurer, and Secretary. Elections for DASI Committee positions are held every year at the end of the third term. Each role is outlined in the DASI Constitution. The DASI also includes the course speakers, who are elected representatives of each course (and each year) at the DA in elections held at the end of October.

Brief description
Growing up in a multinational family, I was lucky to experience the perks of an international environment from a young age onwards. I realized early on, that the DA was the right place to combine my excitement for intercultural exchange with my passion for politics. As former School President, federal state student representative and representative of the Austrian youth on the European level I already had the opportunity to learn about the responsibility of representing my peers and how dedication and hard work can lead to desired change.

As your DASI-Team, we envision the DA of the future as an inclusive and welcoming environment with a prosperous community life that embraces environmental sustainability and digital innovation. In my role as President, my main priority will be to relentlessly advocate for the interests and well-being of the whole student body. I want to be a strong voice for our amazing community while working towards the ambitious goals we set forth in our policy manifesto.

Brief description
Fairness, equality and open dialogues are few of my main priorities here at the DA. I appreciate the great diversity of students and I am dedicated to representing the student’s voices respectfully in order to ensure the best possible study environment. After collecting academic, work and volunteering experiences in 8 countries on 4 continents, I am looking forward to gaining even more expertise in the interdisciplinary program of ETIA to combat current global issues related to sustainable development and climate. I am thankful for the opportunity to study at the Diplomatic Academy, which prepares me excellently for my future career.

As your DASI-Team, we envision the DA of the future as an inclusive, sustainable and welcoming environment with a prosperous community life that embraces environmental sustainability and digital innovation. As Vice President, I will diligently care about our various Societies and Committees and ensure a permanent communication with the DA Administration. Further, I will strongly promote a fair and discrimination-free campus where everyone feels welcome.

Brief description
Born and raised in Salzburg, I have always aimed to leave this comfort zone and gain international experiences. To study at the DA - the haven for intercultural exchange - gives me the possibility to be part of and further develop the international community. Its multidisciplinary approach brings people from different academic and personal backgrounds together which has immensely broadened my horizon during my first academic year.

As your DASI-Team, we are looking forward to representing the student body, to strengthen our amazing community (while keeping the necessary social distance ;-)) and to implement the policy ideas we’ve embedded in our ambitious manifesto. Inclusion, sustainability, innovation and transparency are our main values that will contribute to a prosperous life at the DA. My previous studies in management, with focus on controlling, taught me the necessary skills to be in charge of all legal and financial aspects of DASI.

Background information
Position at DASI: Secretary
Nationality: United States of America
Previous Education: BA in International Studies – The Ohio State University

Brief description
Having grown up in a very small town outside of Buffalo, New York, I was always fascinated with what the rest of the world had to offer.  Upon graduating high school I joined the United States Army, and this is when I was finally able to see more of the world than the little town I grew up.  In 2013, I was selected to work at the White House Communications Agency, and this is where my love for International Relations emanated, and thus, my motivation to study at the Vienna School of International Studies.  My first year at the Diplomatic Academy has been extremely transformative for me, as it is my first time having lived somewhere other than the United States.  I plan to use my experiences of working in communications to maintain a fluent and constructive relationship between the student body and the academic administration.

As your DASI-Team, we envision the DA of the future as an inclusive and welcoming environment with a prosperous community life that embraces environmental sustainability and digital innovation. As Secretary, communication will be my main role.  It will be my responsibility to keep the student body informed on all matters pertaining to the Academy.  I believe communication is extremely important, and as your Secretary, I will use my experience in communications as well as my sense of humor to always keep students on top of what is going on in the DA Community in an enjoyable manner.  We will also work as a team towards implementing the ambitious goals we set forth in our policy manifesto.
