Programme
After an introduction to EU integration perspectives, the institutional framework of the European Union and topical EU policies in the fields of enlargement, external relations, security and defence policy are discussed.
Special attention is given to the concept of human rights, good governance and rule of law, gender equality and women’s empowerment, as well as to environmental and energy questions, migrations issues and the fight against illegal drugs.
Taking into consideration Vienna’s special role as a seat of international organisations, the programme includes a discussion of global security issues and study visits to the UN and the OSCE offices.
Methodology
In order to maximise its practical usefulness, the programme comprises a broad mix of academic analyses, critical discussion, study visits, and the training of soft and practical skills. In interactive exercises participants are able to sharpen their analytical capabilities, management and negotiation skills, as well as crisis management and conflict resolution strategies.
Study Visit to Brussels
The three-week training programme in Vienna is followed by a 5-day study visit to Brussels, which includes presentations and discussions at the European Commission, the European External Action Service, the Council Secretariat and the European Parliament. Participants are thus provided with a first-hand insight into the working of the European institutions.
