Programme
Following an introduction to EU integration perspectives, the institutional framework of the European Union and its decision-making processes as well as topical EU policies in the fields of external relations, security and defence in the context of global trends and developments will be discussed.
Special attention is given to the concept of human rights, good governance and rule of law, gender equality and women’s empowerment, as well as to migrations issues and the fight against illegal drugs.
Taking into consideration Vienna’s special role as a seat of international organisations, the programme includes a discussion of global security issues and study visits to the UN and the OSCE offices.
This programme includes a two-week training programme in Vienna as well as a five-day study visit to Brussels and The Hague, with presentations and discussions amongst others at the European Commission, the European External Action Service, the European Parliament, and the ICC. Participants are thus provided with a first-hand insight into the working of European and International institutions.
Methodology
In order to maximise its practical usefulness, the programme comprises a broad mix of academic analyses, critical discussion, study visits, and the training of soft and practical skills. In interactive exercises participants are able to sharpen their analytical capabilities, management and negotiation skills, as well as crisis management and conflict resolution strategies.
