DEALING WITH GLOBAL HEALTH CHALLENGES: EXECUTIVE TRAINING PROGRAMMES ON SCIENCE DIPLOMACY AT THE DA

The COVID-19 Pandemic stands for many of the urgent and complex challenges the global community is facing at this time. The tackling of issues such as global health challenges requires an ever closer cross-border collaboration of scientists and diplomats.
The European Union’s Horizon 2020 project "Using Science Diplomacy for addressing global Challenges (S4D4C)" aims to support EU science diplomacy for the benefit of the Union's strategic capacities and the development of solutions for societal challenges.

As part of the project specialized training programmes on how to deal with global health challenges have been designed for diplomats and scientists. These interactive workshops demonstrate trust and consensus building methods in the context of infectious diseases and equip participants with knowledge substantial for a successful cooperation of scientists and diplomats in the future.

The DA stands ready to offer these trainings and further tailor-made health- and science-diplomacy-related programmes to interested institutions either at its premises in Vienna or via online learning.

SCIENCE DIPLOMACY WORKSHOP AT THE DA IN NOVEMBER 2019

The training modules on global health challenges were successfully introduced to a broader audience as part of a high-ranking European S4D4C-workshop, hosted by the DA in Vienna from 25-27 November 2019: 25 future science diplomats were trained with the scope of strengthening the interface between diplomacy and science.

The programme contained briefings and encounters with renowned experts, interactive workshops, as well as a visit to the United Nations Office for Outer Space Affairs (UNOOSA) and thus enabled participants to create paths towards effective models of science diplomacy in the future.
