We are proud to be the oldest professional school in the world, having launched talented men and women into international careers and positions of leadership over the course of more than two centuries."

Those are the first lines of the DA's Mission Statement. Having been education global leaders since 1754, we are strongly committed to providing the best possible education to young professionals from all over the world. To ensure that students from all backgrounds enjoy the same opportunities at the Academy, we rely on and are most grateful to our above-mentioned partners and sponsors.

Networks

The Vienna School of International Studies (DA) is a member of various networks whose activities and initiatives bring together people working in the field of International Relations. In addition, cooperation agreements make it possible for DA students to complete part of their studies at a partner university.

Cooperative Degree Programmes of the Vienna School of International Studies

The Cooperative Degree Programmes of the DA are open to students of the Master of Advanced International Studies. MAIS students have the opportunity to complete their second academic year at a partner university:

Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA)

Since 2010 the DA is an affiliate member of the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). As professional school dedicated to preparing talented graduates for international careers and positions of leadership in international policymaking, the DA joined APSIA in order to contribute to the development of professional education in international affairs. APSIA offers a platform for continuous, dynamic and fruitful exchange with the leading schools of international affairs around the world.

Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE)

Since 2016, the DA is a proud member of the Council for Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). Being one of the largest international non-profit associations of educational institutions, CASE serves professionals in the fields of alumni relations, communications, marketing and development of about 3,600 universities, colleges and schools in more than 80 countries.

Alumni Association of the Vienna School of International Studies (ClubDA)

Since 1964 more than 2,300 students from over 120 countries have successfully completed academic programmes of the Vienna School of International Studies. The Alumni Association of the DA (ClubDA) was established with the aim of enabling alumni to easily keep in touch with each other and the DA after their studies. In addition, this worldwide network provides strong support to DA alumni on their path to a successful career.

Forum außenpolitische Think-Tanks (FaTT)

At the end of 2017, the DA initated the Forum außenpolitische Think-Tanks (FaTT), a network of more than 30 organisations and institutes situated in Austria which focus on foreign and European policy. It is the aim of the forum to exchange research papers and briefing materials, to discuss and co-operate in Austrian foreign policy priorities, and to strengthen the interest in European and foreign policy topics in the public sphere.

Fulbright Grants

The Vienna School of International Studies and the Fulbright Commission in Austria offer jointly a Fulbright-Diplomatic Academy Visiting Professor of International Relations Grant. Details are available at www.fulbright.at.

International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT)

The International Forum on Diplomatic Training (IFDT) assembles Deans and Directors of some 100 Diplomatic Academies and Institutes of International Relations worldwide. It was established in 1972 by a joint initiative of the Vienna School of International Studies and the Edmund A. Walsh School of Foreign Service, Georgetown University, Washington, DC.

The Forum meets annually to share information about recent trends in diplomacy and experiences gained in training for diplomatic and international careers.

Österreich-Bibliotheken (Austrian libraries abroad)

Die Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland stellen durch die Partnerschaft mit lokalen Universitäten und Forschungseinrichtungen zugleich ein Wissenschaftsnetzwerk dar, das seit 2023 in Kooperation mit der Diplomatischen Akademie Wien im Sinne der Vernetzung von Wissenschaft, Kultur und Öffentlichkeit betreut wird. Die Kooperation mit dem Institut für vergleichende Medien- und Kommunikationsforschungen (CMC) an der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften [2014–2022] wird für die biennalen Tagungen "Chancen kultureller Netzwerke" für LeiterInnen und wissenschaftliche BetreuerInnen der Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland und die Betreuung der Wissenschaftsplattform in bewährter Weise fortgesetzt.

  • Seit 2005 werden die biennalen Tagungen "Chancen kultureller Netzwerke" für LeiterInnen und wissenschaftliche BetreuerInnen der Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland an der Österreichischen Akademie der Wissenschaften abgehalten.
  • Seit 2006 wird als wöchentliches Online-Journal die Kulturpresseschau an den Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland "Wiener Kaffeehaus Feuilleton" auf dem Webportal der Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland publiziert, das als wöchentlicher Newsletter an die LeiterInnen, wissenschaftlichen BetreuerInnen und MitarbeiterInnen der Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland sowie die österreichischen LektorInnen der OeAD GmbH / Österreichische Agentur für internationale Mobilität und Kooperation in Bildung, Wissenschaft und Forschung versandt wird.
  • Seit 2007 werden gemeinsame Forschungsprojekte, zu denen sich wissenschaftliche MitarbeiterInnen von verschiedenen Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland thematisch jeweils zusammenschließen, initiiert und in Kolloquien, Workshops und wissenschaftlichen Zusammenkünften begleitend betreut.
  • Seit 2009 erscheinen in der Reihe "Transkulturelle Forschungen an den Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland" als Publikationsplattform des Wissenschaftsnetzwerkes der Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland die Ergebnisse dieser Forschungsprojekte. Um die wissenschaftliche Qualität und die konsequente Weiterverfolgung der Veröffentlichungen aus den Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland zu sichern und die Einbettung der Forschungsprojekte in die Schwerpunktsetzungen der österreichischen Forschungslandschaft zu gewährleisten, bilden österreichische WissenschaftlerInnen und ForscherInnen aus unterschiedlichen Disziplinen ein Herausgebergremium im Sinne des international standardisierten Peer-Review-Verfahrens.
  • Seit 2014 werden zwei Mal jährlich die "Wiener Seminare" als zweiwöchige Fortbildungsseminare für MitarbeiterInnen der Österreich-Bibliotheken im Ausland konzipiert und organisiert.
