Anton Pelinka, 1941-2025

The Vienna School of International Studies mourns the loss of Anton Pelinka. For decades, Professor Pelinka introduced our students to comparative government and the political system of Austria. He also taught a seminar on nationalism. Throughout this time, he was one of our most popular lecturers. He also gave regular public lectures and participated in panel discussions at the Academy.

Professor Pelinka was a pioneer of political science in Austria. He played a major role in establishing the subject in this country. He was a researcher and teacher, but also devoted himself to the third mission of university work, i.e. communicating scientific work to the public. For him, political science was never confined to an ivory tower, but always situated at the heart of society.
